Health Benefits of the Pomegranate

In the past few years, pomegranates have been all over the news. Many people have touted them as being a “superfruit”, with numerous health benefits. Much research has been done, and it has been determined that pomegranates, and pomegranate juice, are indeed very healthy for your body. In this article we will be examining just exactly why the pomegranate is so healthy.

The biggest reason for the numerous health benefits of pomegranates is the high level of antioxidants this fruit contains. Pomegranates are extremely rich in polyphenols, or antioxidants. These antioxidants aid your body in functions such as wound repair, bolstering the immune system, as well as acting as an anti-inflammatory. It has also been shown that pomegranates can aid in fighting osteoarthritis.

As you can see, pomegranates are definitely a very healthy food. Guess what the best part is? They taste amazing. You can even make a pomegranate martini if thats your thing.

If you’d like to eat the fruit raw instead, you might be faced with a conundrum. Pomegranates, unlike many other fruits, are actually somewhat complex to eat. You have to break the fruit open and extract the kernels, or seeds, which are what you eat. You can read here for a great article on how to eat a pomegranate.
